Dads on Facebook

Have you noticed that the women you see on Facebook who have kids post pictures with their children but the dads on Facebook post pictures of themselves sans children?

Hmm.

Co-author James di Properzio decided to buck the trend. In his Facebook picture he's featured with his daughter.

Co-author Jennifer Margulis decided to participate in the cliché. Her picture has all three children in it.

  1. I am on facebook and I have pics of me with my nephews and nieces and pregnant wife too!!! So, not all dads follow this practice.

  2. But haven't you noticed that a lot of dads don't include pictures with their kids? I guess the question is why not. Maybe they are using Facebook to flirt and they don't want their kids in the picture? Maybe moms are doing that too? I don't really get what Facebook is for ... Do you find it useful for something? What do you DO with it (other than use up a lot of time that could be spent doing something else)?? Any thoughts appreciated!

  3. I have noticed this. And I would love to be James' Facebook friend. I've posted photos of my son (and my "other" children) in my photo albums, along with pics of my garden. I love photos of people's kids! BTW -- I bought a copy of Baby Bonding for Dads for a male relative who's a new daddy! What a great shower present!

  4. Thanks for buying the book Cindy! Let me know what the dad-to-be thinks of it. I'm sure James will be happy to add you as a friend! I'm eager to hear more about what Facebook is used for!

  5. Some Dads do even worse (Hi Honey! Are you reading this?) and CROP THEIR WIVES out of their Facebook photos.

For the record, I think it's always ok to be alone in your Facebook photo. It's your page after all. But that phantom limb around your neck? Looks weird.

  6. I suspect the dads who are cropping their wives are the same ones who your husbands don't want you hanging out with for, eh hem, obvious reasons. Or maybe it's the EX GIRLFRIEND they cropped out, ever think of that? Jamie! You are even funnier with the one liners (for anyone who doesn't know, Jamie has the most hilarious Web site called Travel Savvy Mom. Hilarious and useful), no wonder you like to Twitter! So, *is* Facebook a pick-up scene? Will someone enlighten me?

  7. I use it to keep in touch w/ friends and family... my parents live an hour away and it helps to let them see what is going on with us... also my brother-in-law in stationed in CA and we keep in touch with him via facebook easier than letters. When used appropriatly it can be a good tool.
